It’s only been 50 years since the birth control pill became available in the United States. Yet today, women who get a period can choose from more than 12 types of birth control and digitally track their menstrual cycle. That’s a far cry from the not-so-distant past when women used pens, paper and guesswork to track their periods and avoid getting pregnant.

Birth control methods vary far and wide. There’s a method for nearly every body and lifestyle. In fact, there are about 12 methods in total and counting. And those methods range from non-hormonal and hormonal to single use and long-lasting use.
The Planned Parenthood Vista Isabella Center, once located in a Carlsbad shopping center, opened its doors this spring in a gleaming, newly developed medical plaza just off of Highway 78. Not only does the center feature a brand new building with an open, inviting and newly designed layout, its location also lends itself to greater safety and comfort for both patients and staff.
I am so excited to share that our first health center in the Imperial Valley has opened! Finally opening our doors is a tremendous victory for the women and families in this region. Not to mention, it is a huge advancement in our mission: to provide the community with the reproductive health care they want and need.
Most moms are proud of their children on a daily basis, but Mother’s Day is around the corner (this Sunday) and it’s the perfect time to reflect on why we are proud of them. As an organization, Planned Parenthood is not only proud of all of the moms out there; we’re grateful for their inspiration. They have one of the most important jobs out there and their dedication motivates us to keep women and their families healthy.
